THE GOOD HEALTH AWARD

Who is involved in the GOOD Health Award?
The initial concept, planning and development of the Award was done on behalf of the Health Promotion Group by a small team consisting of the Director of Public health, the Health Promotion Officer, the Senior Dietician and an Environmental Health Officer.
The Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and the Health Promotion Officer (HPO) are involved in distributing the questionnaires and carrying out site inspections. A Dietician provides the expertise in assessing the healthy choices and may provide support and ideas for caterers. The Health promotion Officer administers the scheme. The Health Promotion Officer or Environmental Health Officer has the right to recommend the removal of an Award from any establishment if it is in breach of the criteria.

The Award Scheme is a locally developed Award. Entitlements and responsibilities of the Award Establishments which meet the requirements of an Award will receive a Certificate which, during its period of validity, they may display prominently on their premises. The Certificate presents to the public that the establishment has been independently assessed in offering a healthy dining experience and that it is dedicated in implementing healthier catering practices as well as providing a healthy environment for its clients.

Establishments also receive the right to use the logo in promoting the establishment (provided this is keeping with the principles of the Award) during the period of validity, for example, at promotional events, advertisements, printed menus etc.

The Health Promotion Group will list Award winners in a local directory. These lists may be circulated in the Press, in articles, on visual media, etc., and may be used with publicity materials produced by the Tourist Board. It is also the intention to set up a local GOOD Health Award Group to help establishments to determine ways to improve the health of individuals.

The GOOD Health Award is valid for one year and can be renewed at the end of the year if the Health Promotion Group considers all the criteria are still fully met. During the course of the year establishments may receive a visit from a member of the award team to evaluate the award.

All entitlements will cease at the end of the period of validity if not renewed. The Award remains at all times the property of the awarding body and can be revoked at any time should the establishment fail to meet any of the criteria.
