The aims of the Good Health Award Scheme are to reduce the high incidence of coronary heart disease in Gibraltar, through responsible catering and to promote healthy eating environments and a wide choice of healthy foods. The award is open to all catering establishments, whether a canteen (workplace, school or hospital), a sandwich bar, a pub, hotel or restaurant or a take-away outlet.

The award was born out of the well known Heartbeat Award but has been extensively modified to create the proper incentives, encourage participation and improve Gibraltar’s health.

The three criteria, which must be met in order to receive the award, are:

  • Provision of healthy food choices
  • Provision of non-smoking seating areas
  • Good standards of food hygiene

The establishment will receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award depending on the marks awarded.
