Sexual Health
|
Sexuality is an integral part of being human. Love, affection and sexual intimacy contribute to healthy relationships and individual well-being. But along with the positive aspects of our human sexuality, there also are illnesses that can affect our sexual health. In addition, irresponsible sexual behaviors can result in undesirable consequences, including unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Unintended teenage pregnancy is of great concern and rates in Gibraltar remain above the norm. The consequences of this can be profound and detrimental to the health of the individual and may include poor educational, social and economic opportunities. Moreover, the rising rates of sexually transmitted infection, the arrival of HIV in the 1980s, evidence of increased risk taking and often-poor control of infections, have all helped to raise concern among health professionals, the government and the public. |
