No Smoking Day 2010 was yet another hit!

The MoD planned and delivered the following:

  1. Primary School - Teddy Bear diaries - a primary school health education initiative which encourages young children to talk about smoking and it’s health effects via a teddy bear and it’s diary.  We hope to turn the teddies/children’s comments either into a display or record them for radio.

  2. Youth Club – are following from their success with last years RAP song and have started work with youth leaders and the radio team on producing a No smoking Day radio jingle

  3. PRMC HALT team – I’ve written a promotional radio script which advertises No Smoking Day on BFBS radio.  This will be broadcast from next week onwards and BFBS will also record interviews throughout campaign period (9/10 Feb).  Interviews will include successful quitters as well as professionals.

  4. Large Media event at the HQBF Command and PRMC on 0930-1200 b9 Feb (rescue of a smoker held captive by Big Cig by an assault team).  Our Command Media Operations Officer is liaising with GBC and local newspapers to seek their coverage of the event.  I’ll be transporting the media team around during the morning and ensuring all runs to plan.  I’d welcome your presence at this event and I’m happy to discuss further on telephone rather than writing reams.  NB: our media ops team are also happy to release any footage they shoot to support your idea of an info-commercial.

  5. Live-link radio interviews with BFBS on No Smoking Day 10 Mar (breakfast launch live on BFBS at 0910, and then live-link interviews during the day).  The team would also like to come along to the event at Casemates to video/record the event for British Forces TV in the UK.

The GHA and MoD manned a stall at casemates and was a success. For more information on quitting the habit, the Primary Care Centre will house resources until the end of the month. For online information please visit www.nosmokingday.co.uk

I would like to extend thanks to the following from the PRMC who cancelled their routine work to come along to the square and support: Jo Harris (Dental Hygienist), Audrey McClean (Occupational Health Nurse),  Zita Jehan (Practice Nurse) and Lorraine England (Practice Nurse).
